Researching Keywords for Gutter Companies

Pretty much everyone is familiar by now with what keywords are and how important they are to grow your business online. Keywords are essentially the most important or relevant words that search engines and customers use to locate your business online. While not the ONLY factor in the algorithm that Google uses for rankings, it is undoubtedly one of the most important.

As a gutter contractor you need to make sure that your website is using the best keywords to maximize your gutter SEO. Using keywords effectively can help you rank in the top spot on Google as a roofing company.

So how do you do this as a gutter company?

What are the best gutter keywords?

There’s no good answer to what the “best” gutter keywords are, but we can get a pretty good idea by using the tools that Google makes available to use.

One of the best places to start is to simply brainstorm a list. For gutters, this means that keyword phrases like “gutter company,” “gutter replacement,” and “gutter repair” are likely to have large search volume. In addition, you can enter these terms into the Google search bar and at the bottom of a results page look at the phrases in the “Searches related to…” section to see other ideas.

The Google Keyword Planner is a FREE tool offered by Google to help you discover and research gutter keywords. Simply create a free Google Ads account to get started. The keyword planner can provide you with search volume, trends, and searches between mobile and desktop so that you can really hone in on the best gutter keywords to use.

Location-Specific Gutter Keywords

Now that we have an idea of what keywords are relevant for gutters, we need to make sure that Google (and your customers) recognize that your business operates in a specific area. Without using location-specific keywords, customers in your local area might never find your business for local searches!

One way to do this is by optimizing your Google My Business listing for your gutter company, but we also want to make sure that we append your local service area to the keywords that we found earlier. For example:

  • Gutter Contractor Chicago, IL
  • Seattle Gutter Repair
  • Asheville NC Gutter Replacement

Try to use variations of the city and state in your keywords. For example, you can use “Chicago,” “Chicago IL” and “Chicago Illinois” as different variations with the same keywords. While Google is getting better at recognizing these are all the same thing, not all search engines are quite as smart.

In addition to using your primary gutter service area, you should also identify the larger sub-areas in your region to use those local keywords as well. For example if your gutter company is based in Chicago, you may want to optimize your gutter keywords for Naperville, Evanston, and Arlington Heights as well.

Long-tail and Short-tail Gutter Keywords

To really maximize your traffic online, you will want to utilize long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords are essentially very specific search terms which, while having a more narrow focus, generally have much higher buyer intent.

In addition, long-tail keywords may account for up to 70% of all web searches.

For gutters, this means that we might expand on the search term “gutter replacement” to “seamless metal gutter replacement.” This customer knows exactly what they want, and you want to make sure your website appears when they search for it.
